The Chinese Smartphone maker, Xiaomi as promised has launched it’s made in India device ‘Redmi 2 Prime’ in the country. Priced at Rs. 6999, the Smartphone is manufactured at Xiaomi-Foxconn facility in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This is company’s second plant outside China, first being located in Brazil.
So how it is different from company’s bestselling phone Redmi 2? Well Xiaomi has double the RAM to 2GB and internal memory to 16GB as compared to Redmi 2. The device will be available on Mi.com, Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal in dark grey and white colors.
It flaunts a 4.7inch IPS display with AGC Dragontrail Glass protection and it is powered by a 1.2 GHz 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with Adreno 305 GPU and 321ppi pixel density. The device runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat which comes layered with company’s MIUI6 on top.
On camera front, it features an 8-megapixel rear camera supported by LED flash, BSI sensor and 1080p video recording along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Redmi Prime 2 sports expandable storage using a micro SD card (up to 32GB) and it takes its juice from a 2200mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, it supports 4G LTE/, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and USB OTG.
Mr. Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s vice president, said, “Redmi 2 Prime will be available via Mi Stores as well as other online stores from today and in the next few weeks it will be made available in offline stores also.”
Manu Jain, head of Xiaomi India, said, “In the first phase Redmi 2 Prime will be available in around 15 stores in southern India and later it will made available in physical stores across the country.
